"Horses aren't my whole life - they make my life whole"
Welcome to Aparima Horse Services. I am Jayne Law (nee Grant) from Castlerock. I have grown up in this area, attended school in Lumsden & after some years of work, education & travelling throughout NZ, Australia & Canada, have returned home to the family farm - North Range Partnership, with my partner Andrew. We have a fun gorgeous wee girl Georgie & another one arriving October 2017 (this means I have had & will have some more time off from our services - maternity leave).
Horses have been part of my life for as long as I can remember, I am very lucky that both of my parents - Ian & Aileen Grant, have always been & still are very involved in the Horse Industry & support me 100%. They are life members of Northern Southland Pony Club, Dad is a Showjump Course Designer/Builder & Mum is a National Showjump Judge.
My first memory is with Dad leading me around mustering on a grey pony called Tinker. I was just holding onto a sheepskin with a syrcingle around her belly, I think aged about 3! I started competing at aged 4 on Pinnochio a wee welsh mountain pony & have never looked back. I have done a bit of everything... a regular team member in eventing, showjump, games & dressage teams, including Springston Trophy. I have evented to Novice level, showjumped to 1.20m, won champion & reserve champion rider & also flat classing on my wonderful pony Colourbreak. She also won South Island Dressage Pony of the Year. I have been a stablehand/trainer at Canadian Olympic Eventor Sandra Donnelly's stable in Canada, broken & started hundreds of horses of all breeds, sizes & ages in Canada & here in NZ. But the most rewarding achievements for me - is training young ponies & horses to a satisfying level, then seeing them continue to make wonderful animals in the equine industry. I really enjoy young horses & am passionate about training them to be 'Reliable, Respectful & Responsive' horses for others to enjoy. I guess you could say I have 25+ years experience with, around & on horses!
The bond between human & horse is a wonderful thing that amazes me everyday! It is a beautiful relationship when an animal of this weight, power & strength trust in humans enough to jump fences 1.80m high & even to enter a small confined space, get tied in there, then have to stand & wait patiently while we drive along the road until arriving, probably somewhere the horses don't recognise!! These animals are so resilient & forgiving & I believe when treated & educated in a fair manner, together humans & horses can achieve so much.
