Training in Most Disciplines
Are you having some issues getting your horse to canter on the correct lead or a young horse needing to learn balance & suppleness. Maybe your horse could do with some regular schooling or taught something new like how to jump or neck rein. I have experience in most diciplines.
Horse Starting/Breaking
I aim to establish a horse for the future that is 'Reliable, Respectful & Responsive'. I offer a firm but fair approach when starting young horses & a lot of the methods I use are from the amazing Clinton Anderson. However I do also have my own ideas & use different things that I have picked up along the way from various other trainers. Most of what I do is Natural Horsemanship, focusing on gaining good ground manners - respect, softness & balance, trust & understanding, as well as exposure to all situations, foreign obstacles & everyday life.
Re-Starting (after time out)
Whether you have a young horse freshly broken with some time off, a horse that has been turned out over winter, requiring some fitness, maybe your hunting horse needs prepared for the season. But you don't have time or perhaps your just not confident enough to get back in the saddle yourself for the first time in a while - I can help bring them back into work & get them up & going again.
Mileage - hacking/mustering
I believe that one of the best things for a young horse after it has been started is to just go hacking! Learn how to walk & work up & down hills, through bogs & creeks, find his feet on sheep tracks or through bush & experience the enjoyment of going new places & seeing new things. They can learn so much from being out trekking, how to move forward & pay attention to where they put their feet, not to mention the other experiences to help bombproof your horse. Such as flapping jackets, dogs barking & hanging around their heels, sheep rustling in bush, cows following, vehicles passing & that sometimes you just have to keep going, rain, hail or shine! Here at North Range, I am very lucky to be able to ride all over the wonderful hill country & fairly often go mustering with Andrew too, where you can bet on putting many miles & hours on hooves!
